Monday (football and other things)

Monday is my day off. I know my blog is dedicated to the Word and Sound Theology so i will try and remain true to that claim (with the majority of my posts). From time to time it's appropriate to talk about less weighty matters. Plus you people only reply to these type of posts. :)

This morning we got up early to take Evelyn to the Dr. for her 6 month check up. The doctor told us what we already assumed "she's a perfect baby."

I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday! If you were able to spend time with family, consider it a blessing. My parents live in WA and Andrea's live in OK. Thankfully we have church family here that we truly love. We are truly thankful for all of God's wonderful gifts in our lives.

**FOOTBALL UPDATE: The Chicago Bears lost a close one to the N.E. Patriots last night (I taped the game since i had PM church). Rex Grossman is still our man. He threw for 175 yards but also had another 75 yards of PI penalties gained. His last pass was a bad throw but all in all our team still has a 2 game lead in the NFC. The Colts are #1; followed by San Diego; #3 Baltimore; #4 Chicago.

The BCS system is silly. College football has major issues but you don't need me to confirm the obvious. A computer will probably decide which 1 loss team (Michigan; USC; Florida) will go to the big game. The Wisconsin Badgers are #7 in the BCS standings but are not eligible. Teams that play no one the entire year (Boise State) will get an at-large birth for reasons no one understands.

The NFL is the premier league of leagues and sport of all sports.

Now there’s the Rex Grossman we all know and love…..what was that….5 turnovers?

WOW

Mike and Mike on ESPN this morning said “He was truly horrible. Awful.”

10-1 baby!!!!!!! Still plenty of room and time for you to jump aboard the Colts bandwagon.

WOW! I can not believe the Bears lost that game! I remember about three weeks ago when you were just singing Rex's praises all week long. What is with the NFC North not being able to find even decent QB help. Grossman, Favre, Kitna, and Johnson???? I think I may know their teams offensive playbooks or how to throw against a 3-4 defense better than they do after playing Madden for a couple hours.

On another note, I couldn't agree more with you about the BCS and college football in general. Can you believe we are most likely going to have to watch Boise State, Oklahoma, Louisville, and Wake Forest in Bowl Championship Series game? And I didn't even mention Notre Dame. A team that has gotten absolutely jacked by two of the actual legit BCS contenders and has squeaked by a couple average teams. I think they might actually be having Rudy play in their secondary this year. Now obviously the BCS system can’t be perfect and this year’s formula isn’t all bad but can they please move to a playoff format. It is obviously about money for all the teams and couldn’t this bring in just as much?

Here are 15 reasons the NFL is better than college football.

1. The athletic and skill levels aren’t even close
2. There are no players who are “growing up”. The best athletes in the world are in their prime, working hard to keep their jobs, and know what to do and when to do it.
3. There are no Pac-10 officials.
4. Many teams can actually play defense.
5. There is no Brent MusBurger, Charlie Weiss, or Lou Holtz
6. There are no 256.9 passer ratings.
7. There are no octazuple overtime games.
8. We don’t have to pretend there is actually something called a “student athlete”.
9. The championship is settled on the field and not with biased media.
10. There is no Notre Dame.
11. A team can fight back from a couple losses early in the season and still win it all.
12. NFL players can’t blame their shortcomings on “distractions”.
13. Upsets. Any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday in the NFL.
14. Rivalries. The rivalries in the NFL get everyone’s attention. Except for the rare occasion (like Mich. And OSU) NCAA rivalries are only important to the schools or conference involved. Plus, the rivalries can be played out in the playoffs.
15. The playoffs and Super Bowl.

Caleb…also why not post on all the people that think NCAA basketball is better than the NBA. Just because a bunch of guys get together in an office pool every March, they think that is better sports? Not many things are more fun to watch than the NBA playoffs, but certainly not a bunch of two-sport athletes launching about 90 3’s a game.

Jordan,

Rex is Rex. He has started 16 games in his career so we have to be patient. What were Steve McNair's and/or P Mannings numbers through his first 16 games? C & P.

Great thoughts on the 15 reasons why the NFL is better than NCAA Football. You should pursue sports journalism since you have a gift in writing.

This is good fun!

The COLTS are in the AFC South with the Titans, JAX, and Houston. I would take the NFC North over those 3 wanna-bees.

This is all in good fun.

How come no one is getting on ELI MANNING?
